## On Getting Started with Double Materiality

"The biggest mistake companies make is treating double materiality as a compliance checkbox rather than a strategic opportunity. We approached it as a chance to really understand where our business creates impact and where sustainability issues affect our bottom line."

The Process We Followed

"We started with a comprehensive stakeholder mapping exercise. This wasn't just about ticking boxes – we genuinely wanted to understand who our key stakeholders are and what matters to them. We conducted over 50 interviews with investors, customers, employees, suppliers, and community representatives."

Challenges and How We Overcame Them

"Data availability was our biggest challenge, especially for Scope 3 emissions and supply chain impacts. We had to be pragmatic – using estimates where necessary while building systems to improve data quality over time. The key is being transparent about your methodology and its limitations."

Advice for Other Companies

"Start early, involve senior leadership from day one, and don't try to do everything at once. Focus on the material topics that matter most to your business and stakeholders, then build from there."
